Bring the taste of Zambia to your Kitchen:
There's nothing like the smell of sun-dried bream simmering with tomatoes and onions. It's comfort food. It's home.
At Pepi Pafupi, our bream is sourced from the fresh waters of the Luangwa and Kafue rivers, sun-dried the traditional way, and packed fresh for you. Here's exactly how to cook it so it tastes just like mum's:
What you'll need:
- 2-3 pieces of Pepi Pafupi Sun-Dried Bream Fish
- 3 medium size tomatoes, chopped
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves, garlic, minced
- Cooking oil
- Salt, and your favorite spices
- Water
- Optional: Green pepper, bay leaf
Step-by-step cooking method:
Step 1: Clean the fish
Rinse the dried bream in warm water. This softens your fish . You can soak it for just about 10 minutes if you like it softer before you put it in your pot.
Step 2: Fry the base
Heat oil in a pot. Add onions and garlic. Fry until golden. Add tomatoes and cook until they make a nice sauce.
Step3: Add the Bream Fish
Add your cleaned bream fish pieces to the pot. Gently turn them so the sauce covers both sides. Add 1 cup of water and let the fish to cook on moderate heat. When the water in the pot gets low, add another cup until the fish cooks to a tender stage of your liking.
Don't stir the fish because if you do, it will just break up. As your delicacy is cooking, add salt and spice to taste
Step $: Serve
Serve hot with nshima or rice or sweet potatoes. Don't forget to share this delicious dish with family and friends!💖
